COVINGTON — Richard Thomas
Warner, 80, 1212 Third St., Covington, died at 3:40 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23,
2000 in VA Medical Center, Danville, Ill. He was born June 4, 1920 in Bellmore,
N.Y., the son of Harry Warner and Catherine Flood. He married Gloria Deacon
July 31, 1944 in LaJolla, Calif. She survives. He was a graduate of State
University of New York in Oswego, N.Y. and received his masters degree from
Ball State University. He was a Marine Corps veteran of Guadalcanal, serving in
the 1st Marines. They moved to Covington in 1952 from Muncie. He was an
industrial arts teacher at Covington High School, East Park and Danville Junior
College, Danville, Ill. and at Shawnee Learning Center for several years. He
was employed at Olin Corp. 15 years before retiring. He moved to the farm in
1966 and enjoyed his farming. He was a fine cabinetmaker and enjoyed
woodworking. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Holy Name Society,
and served as Lector. Survivors, besides the wife, include: four sons, Michael R.
Warner, Portland, Ore., Peter E. Warner and Richard J. Warner, both of
Covington, and David P. Warner, Danville, Ill.; two daughters, Suzanne (Bunch)
Warner, San Rafael, Ecuador, S. A. and Rosemary Warner, New York, N.Y.; and
seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother,
Harry Warner. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday) in St.
Joseph Catholic Church, Covington, with the Rev. Charles Kline officiating.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Covington. Shelby Funeral Home,
Covington, in charge of arrangements. The family requests that memorials be
made to the American Cancer Society, envelopes available at the funeral home. – jlr
