Monticello—William C. Ware, 69, 604 Lakeland Ave., Monticello, died unexpectedly at 1:44 p.m. Monday, May 29, 1989 in Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac.
He was born April 23, 1920 in Covington. He had lived in the Monticello area 45 years. He was married April 19, 1941 in Lebanon to Lillian Mae Davis, who survives.
He retired from REMC in 1984, after 39 years of service. He was past president of the Superintendents’ Association of the REA.
He had served in the Army Signal Corps during World War II and was the recipient of the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Silver Star while serving in the European Theatre.
He was a member and past deacon of the Monticello Christian Church, life member and past commander of Monticello American Legion Post 81 and life member of both the VFW and DAV of Monticello. He was active as a Boy Scout leader for 15 years with Troop 28.
Surviving besides his wife are three sons, William D., West Lafayette; Jerry L., Logansport, and James F., Monticello; a daughter, Beverly A. Hampton, Monticello, his mother, Ruth Rickets Ware, Corydon, Ky.; four brothers, Joe, Dugger; Jack, Tucson, Ariz.; Eugene, Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Larry, Attica; two sisters, Helen Hunt, Corydon, Ky., and Patricia Ware, West Lebanon.
Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. today at Miller-Voorhis Funeral Home, Monticello. Funeral services will be there at 2 p.m. Thursday with burial in Riverview Cemetery, with military rites. – thanks to S
