CRAWFORDSVILLE — Carl Donald Ward, 83, 1602 East Union St., Crawfordsville, died at 9:43 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 2000 at his residence. He had been in failing health for the past six months. He was born Aug. 5, 1916 in Wallace, the son of Thomas E. and Ella Marie South Ward. He married Helen Gott Dec. 24, 1944 in Mellott. She survives. He was raised in Wallace and attended Wallace High School. He lived most of his life in Hillsboro and for the past three years had lived in Crawfordsville. He worked as a timber buyer for Pierson-Hollowell Lumber and Veneer Company, where he retired after 25 years of service. He formerly farmed for many years in the Hillsboro area, farming in Cain and Jackson townships in Fountain County. He was a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church and a 50-year member of Wallace Lodge #495 F. & A.M. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing. Survivors, besides the wife, include: a daughter, Trena (Stewart) Ezzati-Rice, Olney, Md.; two sons, Leslie “Les” Ward, Indianapolis and Robert “Bob” Ward, Gaithersburg, Md.; two grandchildren, Mitra Ezzati, Germany; Alan Ezzati, San Diego, Calif.; and a brother, Earl Ward, Veedersburg He was preceded in death by a brother, James Robert Ward and a sister, Ruby Cooper. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday in Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery Hillsboro. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Hillsboro Christian Church. – jlr
