Mrs. Martina Atwood Wamsley, age 75, of Cates, died at 4:10 a. m. today, Aug. 30, at the Allen Nursing Home in Rockville, where she had been a patient since Feb. 29, 1960. Mrs. Wamsley was born Aug. 15, 1886 in Mercer County, Ky., the daughter of Jackson and Eliza Samonis Sallee. She was married to Tobe Long, who preceded her in death in 1918. On March 7, 1919 she married Elias V. Wamsley, who survives. She moved to Fountain County in 1946 and to Cates in 1957. She had resided in Indianapolis for 23 years. She was a member of the Stone Bluff Church of the Nazarene. Surviving in addition to her husband, are: six children, Raymond Long of Calif., Mrs. Helen Bradford, Mrs. Frances Sprunger and Mrs. Martina Alice Deaver, all of Indianapolis, Starling Wamsley of Miami, Fla., and Herbert Wamsley of Lebanon; 28 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marion Sallee of Bushnell, Fla., and Hartford of Greensburg; and one sister, Mrs. Ella Mae Perry of Knightstown. She was preceded in death by three sons, two brothers and two sisters. The body is at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home here where friends may call. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a. m. Friday at the Cates EUB Church. The Rev. Donald Williams and the Rev. Lawrence R. West will officiate. Burial will be in the South Park Cemetery at Greensburg. Mrs. Martina Atwood Wamsley, 75, a resident of the Cates community since 1957, died at 4:10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, 1961, at the Allen Nursing Home in Rockville where she had been a patient 18 months.
Born Aug. 15, 1886, in Mercer, Ky., she was the daughter of Jackson and Eliza Samonis Sallee. She was married to Tobe Long, who preceded her in death in 1918. She was later married on March 7, 1919, to Elias V. Wamsley, who survives and is a retired Nazarene minister who has been serving as supply pastor for the EUB Church.
Mrs. Wamsley formerly resided in Indianapolis for 23 years, returning to Fountain County in 1946. She was a member of the Stone Bluff Nazarene Church.
Other survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Helen Braford, Mrs. Mary Frances Springer and Mrs. Martina Alice Deaver, all of Indianapolis; 3 sons, Raymond Long of California, Starling Wamsley of Miami, Fla., and Hurbert of Lebanon, Ind.; two brothers, Marion of Bushnell, Fla., and Hartford of Greensburg; a sister, Mrs, Ella Mae Perry of Nicetown, Ind.; 28 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by three sons, two brothers and two sisters.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Cates EUB Church. The Rev. Donald Williams and the Rev. L. R. West will officiate, with burial in South Park Cemetery at Greensburg. The body is at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington where friends will be received after noon Thursday. It will be taken to the church one hour before services.
