Fred G. Walter, 79, of Covington Route 1, died Sunday March 6, 1977 at Covington Manor Nursing Home. He had been seriously ill six weeks. Born Dec. 20, 1897, in Wabash Township, Fountain County, he was the son of Charles and Carrie Gilman Walter. On June 1, 1920, he married Elsie Lucas, who survives. A life resident of Wabash and Troy townships, he had resided in his present home since 1902. He retired from farming in 1965 and had operated a maple sugar camp for many years. He attended the Wabash Chapel Church and was a member of Fountain Lodge 60 F & AM and Wallace Low 12 Club. He served as Democratic precinct committeeman of Troy Township for 29 years. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Herschel (Mary Ellen) Mycroft of Covington; a grandson, Charles B. Mycroft of Covington Route 1; a granddaughter, Mrs. Dean (Judith) Williams of Cicero; and three great grandchildren. The deceased was a brother-in-law of Mrs. Celia Walter of near Veedersburg. He was preceded in death by a son, three sisters and three brothers. Services at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home with the Rev. George Beatty officiating. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery. – jlr
