Savanna, Ill, May 4 - Funeral services for William D. Waldrip, 60, superintendent of Savanna city schools, who died Thursday night, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Fuller funeral home, with Rev. T. Stuart Cleworth, pastor of Community church, in charge. Burial will be in the city cemetery. Mr. Waldrip was born Feb. 16, 1880, near Attica, Ind., the son of Isaac and Alice Osborn Waldrip. He attended schools in Attica and was graduated from Indiana University. He took post-graduate work at Indiana State Normal school. He has been engaged in school work for 35 years and was superintendent of schools at Streator, Ill., for 16 years before coming to Savanna. He was prominent in civic affairs and popular as a public speaker, at one time being state lecturer for the Daughters of the American Revolution. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the B.P.O.E. and Knights of Pythias lodges. He also was active in Rotary club work and served at chairman for many civic activities. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Martha Bortner, Savanna, one son, William Jr., of Danville; a granddaughter, Martha Barbara Bortner; one brother, Cliff Waldrip, of Andover, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. E. E. Brown of Veedersburg, Ind. His wife, the former Alice Harvey, died in Savanna in 1935. His parents, wife and one brother and one sister preceded him in death.

W(illiam) D Waldrip. 59 years old, instructor in history at the local high school a number of years ago died Friday morning at his home in Savannah, Ill where he was superintendent of schools. He also had taught school at Terre Haute, Ind and Decatur, Ill and has served as sup of schools at Tuscola, Ill and Streator, Ill. His wife, the former Miss Alice Harvey of this city died about two years ago. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Marth Bortner, Savannah and a son, William Waldrip, Decatur and one granddaughter. Local relatives are Mrs. Ella Harvey, his mother-in-law, and Clarence Collins, a brother-in-law. Funeral services and burial will take place Sunday afternoon at Savannah.
