MELLOTT—Stephen A. Wade, 81, resident of the Mellott community, died late Monday night at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. Mr. Wade, a retired railroad section foreman, was rushed there from his home near Mellott earlier in the morning. He was frequently hospitalized at Lafayette recently as a result of emphysema. The deceased had been a member of the Mellott United Church of Christ for more than 60 years. After his retirement from the railroad, he worked for the State Highway Department, supervising a paint and bridge gang. He was also self-employed as a painting contractor. Born on April 6, 1888, he was the son of Aaron and Sarah Dodson Wade. He was married on Oct. 22, 1909, to Veneta Brooks of Covington. Surviving are the widow, two sons, Charles of Crawfordsville and Howard, who lives at the family home; two daughters, Mrs. Oscar (Gladys) Merrill of Indianapolis and Mrs. John (Marie) King of near San Francisco; 11 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren. Mr. Wade was the last of nine children. Services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Crumley-Williams Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Rev. Ronnie Peters of Kensington, Ohio, in charge. Rev. Peters is a former pastor of Wade's church. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday, and burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Hillsboro. --typed by Walt W
