Mrs. William Price, of Hillsboro received word Friday of the accidental death of her brother, William R. Smith, 71 of West Lafayette who was killed in an automobile accident. The accident occurred at 12:15 p.m.
Friday at the intersection of Roads 41 and 18, three miles west of Lafayette when his car collided with one drive by Lt. George Boutelle of Morrris Field, West Palm Beach, Fla.
Mr. Smith, who was reared in Troy Township near Covington was the first of a family of 7 children to be called in death.  He had resided in West Lafayette for a number of years, having served as superintendent of the Methodist Sunday School in West Lafayette for more than 20 years.  Mr. Smith was a director of the Lafayette Life Insurance Company, having been connected with the company since it was organized.
The survivors include the widow, two daughters and three sons, all grown; and four grandchildren.  He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Price of Hillsboro; Mrs. Hannah Wilson  and Mrs. Hattie Dewlen of Covington
and three brothers, Lewis Smith of Covington; Francis Smith of Attica and James G. Smith of West Lafayette.
Funeral services were held from the West Lafayette Methodist Church at 2 p.. Monday with burial in a West Lafayette cemetery. Mrs. Price of Hillsboro and her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William Coats of
near Steam Corner attended the funeral services.   --- kbz.
