Covington—Warren Guy Smith, 67, 615 Crockett, Covington, died at 4:15 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 1989 at his home.
  He was born Dec. 2, 1921 in Hillsboro, the son of William E. and Zelpha M. Jeffries Smith. He was married Oct. 31, 1943 in Covington to Anna Rose Strawser, who survives.

  He worked for Interstate Sand and Gravel Co. for 30 years. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Covington, Covington VFW, Covington American Legion, Knights of Pythias and Double I Gem and Mineral Society of Danville. He was a Boy Scout leader for several years. He was one of the founders of the Covington Little League. He served as Republican precinct committeeman for several years.

  His hobbies were gardening, hunting and fishing.

  Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Rosa Lee Taylor, Bismarck, Ill., and Marilyn Bentley and Patricia Tolley, both of Covington; one son, Patrick, Perrysville; a granddaughter, Julie Rice, Covington; four brothers, Stanley R., Winneconne, Wis.; Robert E. and James F., both of Covington, and Frank, Erie, Pa.; two sisters, Elsie Abernathy of Florida and Marjorie Adams, White Springs, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother.

  Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Dickerson Funeral Home, Veedersburg, with the Rev. Paul Kent officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Covington. – thanks to S
