Virgil H. Smith, 63, former Fountian County farmer, died at 1 p.m. Sunday at St Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. Born at Waveland March 27, 1906, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Smith. His marriage in 1931 was to Olive Henry who preced him in death in April 1964. Two brothers also preceded him in death. Mr. Smith attended Waveland HS and was a member of Hillsboro Nazarene Church. He farmed near Wallace until 1958 moving to the Klondike area where he managed a poultry farm from 1959 until recently. Surviving are 5 sons, James M. , Larry D, and Richard A. of Lafayette, David K currently in the Navy at Great Lakes Naval Training Center and Eddie J at home; six grandchildren and four nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wedmesday at Servies Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown with Rev. John Servies officiating. Burial will be in Freedom Cemetery near Wavleand. Friends may pay respects at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Monday.
