Silas Maynard Smith, 89, a life resident of Veedersburg, died Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville. He had been in ill health several months and suffered a coronary attack last Wednesday.
Born in Veedersburg May 20, 1876, he was the son of D. K. and Alcinda Walker Smith. His first marriage was to Millie Mess 1899, she preceded him in death.
He married Estelle Campbell Jan. 2, 1945. She survives along with two daughters, Mrs. Lenore Robinson, Remington, and Mrs. Dora Campbell, Veedersburg; one son, Omar Eugene Smith of Tipps Field, Mass.; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; a stepson; Herbert Campbell of Indianapolis, and three step grandchildren.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Veedersburg. He had been a rural mail carrier 30. years prior to his retirement.
Parham Funeral Home has charge of arrangements. Services will be at 2 p.m. today, with Rev. James Dyson officiating. Burial will be in Rockfield Cemctery.
