Kingman – Roberta (Birdie) Smith, 72 of rural Kingman died at 5:15 a.m. Aug 24, 1996 in Culver Union Hospital, Crawfordsville. She was born April 4, 1924 at Kokomo, Indiana daughter of George and Ethel Heidner Dean. On June 25, 1942, she married Eugene Smith. He survives. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Centennial Community Church, the Centennial Quilters Circle and the North Millcreek Extension Club. She was a graduate of Rockville HS but had attended her first 11 years of school at Bloomingdale. Surviving besides her husband are a daughter, Mrs. Chuck (Georgianna) Davenport, rural Kingman; a son, Donald (Peggy) Smith, rural Kingman; four sisters, Martha Croucher of Hume, Ill; Ann Marchese, Port Charlotte, Fla; Margaret Myers, Pengilly, Minn and Jayne Nance, Charlotte, NC; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Aug 26 in the Centennial Community Church with Rev. Carl Stetler officiating.
