STRINGTOWN, Ind.
(CNS) – Raymond R. Smith, 75, died at 6:20 a.m. (Oct. 21, 1968) at his home in
Stringtown. He had been ill eight years. Born Dec. 18, 1892, in Wabash Township
of Fountain County, he was married Aug. 3, 1923, to Melva Hall, who died Jan. 17,
1943. He had been a coal miner most of his life and was employed at the Asphalt
Corporation of America in Danville for 10 years, before he was forced to retire
due to his health. He was a member of the Church of God. Survivors include a
daughter, Maxine Smith of Covington Route 1; and five grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his mother, Belle Smith; a son, a daughter and a brother.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in
Covington. The Rev. A. H. Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Snoddy’s
Cemetery. The body is at the funeral home. Friends will be received after 3
p.m. Wednesday. – jlr
