SMITH, Ralph - 1915

Source: Kingman Star Friday, May 21, 1915

A Covington home was saddened and the lives of a good family darkened Thursday forenoon when   RALPH   SMITH     the 7 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Smith, died within a short time after his head had been crushed by a gravel wagon.

The boy and his brother were playing in the alley just south of the Clark residence, W. Liberty street, when Fred Hodges drove in with a load of gravel to be put in the lot at the rear of the Smith home, next door to  Clark’s.     Ivan and Ralph started to climb on to the back of the wagon.  The younger lad evidently fell, for the wheel passed over his head snuffing out life almost instantly. Mr. Hodges, the driver, was in no way responsible.  The accident recalls the death of Howard Goldbach, who was killed in a similar manner a few years ago.

The boy’s father is janitor at the Citizen’s Bank. --      Covington Republican.
