Veedersburg — Porter F. Smith, age 81, a resident of Veedersburg for many years, father of Eddie Smith of Covington, died at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at his home. He had been ill for several years and had been seriously ill since January. He was born Jan. 31, 1881, in Clinton County, Ky., and his parents were Pete and Sarah Means Smith. He was married to Sarah Purdue. Later he married Ella Higgs who preceded him in death. He was last employed at Harrison Steel Co. in Attica but had been retired for some time due to ill health. Survivors include three sons, Eddie of Covington, Joe of Columbus and Kenneth of Veedersburg; a daughter, Wandalene of Veedersburg, three step-sons, Wayne Carey of Twiddy, Tex., Bob York and Floyd York of Veedersburg; two step-daughters, Mrs. Madge Shell of Bloomington, Ill., and Mrs. Goldie Sams of Attica; two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Adkins of Danville, Ill., and Mrs. June DeJehne of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and 23 step-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, at the Sterling Christian Church. The Rev. Alfred Dobbs officiated. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery near Hillsboro with the Fishero Funeral Home in charge.   --typed by Walt W
