SMITH, Mollie

Source: Waynetown Hornet Saturday October 20, 1888

__Oftentimes we are called upon to write an obituary notice which becomes only our duty in the profession we follow, but now it is a friend, not only to us, but everyone who knew her. That person was Miss Mollie Smith, teacher in our public schools. She was a model young lady, having as few faults as any person in town, loved with that deep affection that by her death, there is a vacancy that can never be filled. Having taught school in the town and community for several years, the school children became attached to her and they, each and everyone, showed their deep sympathy by going with her remains for the last time to the train, where they will be taken to Waveland, her home, for burial. She was born July 11, 1858, and died Thursday night, Oct. 18, 1888, of congestion of the brain after a short illness, making her 30 years old. Kind hearted Mollie Smith has taught her last school, she now leaves us, and with that leave we are compelled to say not only a good-bye, expecting her back next winter, but for all time and eternity. Her spirit has flown and now it remains or her friends to only live a pure life as she did and meet her, not next winter, but when the same Messenger has called her, calls you to quit this world and meet friends gone before in Heaven. – thanks so very much to S&E for these super Waynetown obituaries for the site - kbz
