Newtown – Louis E. Smith, 72 of Newtown died at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette.  He had been in failing health several months.  He was born April 20, 1912 in Newtown and attended Newtown schools. He also attended Lafayette Jefferson HS.  In 1974, Mr. Smith retired from Radio Materials Corp in Attica.  He was an avid gardner and enjoyed bowling, and one year, he was city champion of Shawnee Lanes Bowling Alley in Attica.  His marriage was June 28, 1962 to Lucybelle Keller and she survives.  Also surviving are daughter, Mrs. David (Gwen) Solomon of Newtown and three sons, Edwin D of Dyersburg, Tenn and Keith A and Eric J Smith both of Newtown.  - kbz

Newtown - Louis E. Smith, 72 of Newtown died at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Lafayette. He had been a patient there for a week.,  He had retired from RMC at Attica in 1974.  He attended Lafayette Jefferson and Newtown HS. He was an avid gardener and was a city bowling champion at Shawnee Lanes.  He was born April 30, 1912 near Newtown, a son of Grover Cleveland and Eura Foxworthy Smith.  He was first married to Margaret Rusk who died in 1976.  He married Lucybelle Keller on June 28, 1962.  She survives.  Also surviving are three sons: Edwin D of Dyersburg, Tenn and Keith A and Eric J. of Newtown; a daughter, Mrs. David (Gwen) Solomon of Newtown; 7 grandchildren and two great granddaughters.  A daughter is deceased. Private graveside services will be conducted Friday morning in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. There will be no visitation at Crumley-Williams Funeral Home at Hillsboro.
