SMITH, Lawrence W. - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

Lawrence W. Smith of Newport, age 72, died Sunday night, December 26, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was born in Coles County, Illinois, August 16, 1910, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arlie Smith. July 12, 1942, he married Bertha T. Bailey, who survives. He was a member of the Assembly of God in Cayuga and United Auto Workers Local 579. He had retired after 23 years as an inspector for General Motors in Tilton, Illinois.

  Also surviving are two daughters, Wanda Hughes and Gail Crowder, both of Covington; five sisters, Dorothy Jones of Danville, Illinois, Jean Ray of Rockville, Marjorie Brunzell, Pearl Wilkenson and Mary Horner, all of Canada; a brother, William of Georgetown, Illinois; and two grandchildren.

  Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home in Cayuga with Rev. Edgar Allen and Rev. Jimmy Dowers officiating. Burial was in Miller Cemetery near Lodi. - thanks to S
