 Jessie M. “Jack” Smith of Newtown, age 79, died Wednesday morning, March 3, in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Lafayette. He was born in Richland Township, Fountain County, December 9, 1902, the son of Charles E. and Victoria Helms Smith. December 21, 1935, he married Evelyn Campbell, who survives. A retired farmer, he was a member of Union Christian Church and Newtown Masonic Lodge. He had lived on RR 3, Veedersburg most of his life.

  Also surviving are a daughter, Janet Ramsey of Indianapolis; a sister, Lola Romine of Covington; a brother, Oscar of the Lafayette Soldier’s Home; and three grandchildren.

  Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Maus Funeral Home in Attica with Rev. Benjamin Swopes officiating. Burial was in Union Christian Cemetery.  – thanks to S
