Clinton—James L. Smith, 61, Clinton, died at 4:55 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 1989 in his home after a long illness.
He was born Nov. 2, 1927 at Mecca, the son of Lee and Frances Kinsey Smith. He was married Dec. 4, 1948 at Brooklyn, N. Y., to Kay McConigle, who survives.
He had been an instrument mechanic at Alcan at Terre Haute before retiring. He was working for Specialty Blanks of Terre Haute at the time of his death.
He was a member of Moose Lodge 1501 and Half Century Club, both of Clinton, and AAFCU, a credit union at Terre Haute of which he was a board member. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving besides his wife are four daughters, Candy Woodall, Waynetown; Janet Harris, St. Berniece; Kathi Cheever, Clinton, and Michelle Carty of Travis Air Force Base, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Sutphin, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Ruth Papurca, Jacksonville, N. C.; 11 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Frist Funeral Home, Clinton, with the Rev. Tom Amsden officiating. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Clinton. – thanks to S
