James Smith, 73, died at 11:30 o'clock Saturday night at the home of his stepson, Charles Kirts, near Taylor Station, after an illness of a year.    Born near Riverside, Indiana, March 13, 1859, he was the son of Jacob and Jennie Smith.  In 1889 he married Sarah Ellen Kirts, who died October 16, 1924.   Surviving are nine grandchildren and six stepsons, Charles Kirts, at whose home he died: James Kirts, of Attica: Ed Kirts, of West Point; Frank and Avery G. Kirts, of Riverside.  Friends may call at the Kirts residence near Taylor Station until the time of the funeral, which will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the United Brethren church at Riverside, near Attica.  The Rev.
