SMITH, George W. - Civil War

George W. Smith, a veteran of the 72nd Indiana regiment died at 9 o’clock Thursday Jan 4 at his home on West Pike Street, Attica, aged 70 years.  For the past 4 years he had been totally blind and had drawn $100 per month one of the largest pensions paid to any private soldier in the state.  The funeral was held at 10 o’clock Sunday morning. The Ladies of the GAR Circle conducted their flag service.  Mr. Smith leaves a widow and several grown children.   -kbz
