Perrysville – George L. Smith Sr age 72 of Perrysville Rt 1 was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville, Ill after being stricken ill at his residence about 11:45 am Wednesday Dec 3.  Mr. Smith was born Aug 2, 1897 in St. Joseph Ill the son of Louis A. and Matilda Clinesmith Smith. He was married Dec 22, 1917 to Hazel B. Bartlett, who survives.  A retired farmer, Mr. Smith resided at the Perrysville address for the past five years and had resided at Danville Rt 5 for 30 years before that. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Pleasant Grove, a member of Olive Branch Masonic Lodge, the Danville Consistory and the Farm Bureau.  Surviving in addition to the wife are three sons, George L, Jr of Oakwood, Ill; Earl G of Fullerton, Calif and James Merlyn Smith of Danville; five daughters, Mrs. William Marion of Danville; Mrs. Michael Wistock of LaHabra, Calif; Mrs. Fred (Hazel) Bahls of Veedersburg; Mrs. Leonard Wascher of Westville and Mrs. Donald (Pat) Hughes of Perrysville; 19 grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.  Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Lakeside Funeral Chapel in Danville. The Rev. Donald True officiated and burial was in Stearns Cemetery at Muncie, Ill.
