p.m. Thursday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington, Ind., for
Eddie L. “Doc” Smith, 68, of 103 Olive in Danville. He died Monday (Oct. 9,
1978) at St. Elizabeth Hospital from injuries received in an auto accident
Sunday afternoon on the Portland Arch Road north of Covington. The Rev. Alfred
Dobbs will officiate, and burial will be in Bonebrake Cemetery south of
Veedersburg, Ind. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral
home. Smith had been a driver for Red Top Cab Co. for nine years. Previously,
he had worked at Harrison Steel Castings Co. in Attica, Ind., for 18 years. He
attended Hillsboro, Ind., schools. A resident of Danville nine years, he had
resided in Covington 28 years. Born July 14, 1910, in Glasgow, Ky., he was the
son of Porter and Sarah Purdue Smith. On Feb. 22, 1940, he married the former
Margaret Mornout, who survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Sam
(Mary Jo) Potter of Georgetown Route 1; a half-brother, Kenneth Smith of
Logansport, Ind., a half-sister, Miss Wandaline Smith of Covington Route 1;
three grandchildren, Mrs. Melody Stephenson, Jeff Potter and Ronnie Potter; a
great-granddaughter; and two aunts. – jlr
