VEEDERSBURG – Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Hortense Smith, age 74, a Veedersburg native, were held in Tulare, Calif. Mrs. Smith was a frequent visitor to the Veedersburg community. She was born April 28, 1894, the daughter of James and Mollie Isley Gookins. Her husband, Dr. Edgar Smith survives. Other survivors include several cousins of the Veedersburg area, including Mrs. Omega Helms Pearson, Irvin and Carl Isley and William and Hardy Gookins. Burial was in Tulare. jlr

VEEDERSBURG - Mrs. Cecil Pearson was notified Monday night of the death of her cousin, Mrs. Dorothy Hortense Smith of Tulare, Calif., which occurred at 5 p.m. Monday.  She had been hospitalized since January 10.
Mrs. Smith, daughter of James and Mollie Isley Gookins, was born April 28, 1894 in Veedersburg.  She moved with her parents to California in 1905.  She visited in this area in 1960.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Dr. Edgar Smith, retired dentist of Tulare.
Cousins in the Veedersburg area besides Mrs. Pearson, include Irvin Isley, Attica; Carl Isley, State Line, and Bill and Hardy Gookins of near Newtown.
Burial will be in Tulare.
