ATTICA, Ind. – David
T. (Turp) Smith, 81, of Independence, Attica Route 3, died at 6:30 p.m. Sunday
(March 2, 1969) at the Community Hospital in Williamsport. He had been a
patient three days, but had been ill for some time. Mr. Smith was born in
Warren County April 9, 1887, the son of Wesley and Sophia Clawson Smith. He was
a native of Independence. He was a union painter and had been employed in
Lafayette before retiring in 1956. He was married to Arnetta Harvey in 1917,
who preceded him in death in 1956. He was married in 1958 to Minnie Clawson,
who survives; also, a sister, Mrs. Carl Arbidson of Otterbein, and several
nieces and nephews. Mr. Smith was a member of the Christian Church and Green
Hill F & AM No. 455. Friends will be received after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the
De Sutter Funeral Home in Attica. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in
the De Sutter Chapel, with the Rev. Eldon Brown officiating. Burial will be in
the Independence Cemetery with graveside Masonic services by the Green Hill
Lodge. – jlr
