VEEDERSBURG -- Mrs. Cora Smith; 98, a native of Fountain County, died at 1:40 p.m. Sunday in Indianapolis at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Flossie Sutton. She had been in failing health for the past 11 months and seriously ill three days prior to her death. Born Nov. 4, 1867, near Aylesworth, a small community seven miles north of Veedersburg, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of Henry and Sue Quigle. She was reared and educated in the Stone Bluff area and spent most of her lifetime there. She was a member of the Stone Bluff EUB Church. She married John Smith. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Smith was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Flo Campbell of Veedersburg. For the past several years, Mrs. Smith had lived with her children. Five generations of descendants survive Mrs. Smith. She was 91 when her great-great-great-grandson, Jeffrey Lee Daniels, was born. Survivors include Mrs. Sutton and another daughter, Mrs. Elsie Florey, also of Indianapolis; nine grandchildren including Mrs. Carl Hankins of Waynetown; 20 great-grandchildren including Mrs. Barbara Pritchard of Jackson, Miss.; six great-great-grandchildren including Mrs. Carolyn Daniels of Baton Rouge, La., and Mrs. Daniels' children, Jeffrey Lee and Christine. Other survivors include two brothers, Ira Quigle of Waynetown and Frank Quigle of Stewartson, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. Grace Weltner of Uniontown, Pa. The body was taken to the Shirley Funeral Home at 4565 E. 10th St. in Indianapolis where friends may call between 4 and 9 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Parham Funeral Home in Veedersburg. Burial will be in Osborne Prairie Cemetery northwest of Veedersburg.
