CLIFFORD SMITH, a young man aged about nineteen, committed suicide at the home of his mother in Covington Saturday by taking carbolic acid. This was young Smith’s third attempt to shuffle of this mortal coil. At the inquest held by coroner Parham, it developed that Smith was deeply in love with a young girl 16 years old who was sent to the reformatory. They were to have been married soon had she not been sent to the reformatory and this interference with the marriage caused the young man to commit the rash act. - s
