SMITH, Charles Walker

Charles Walker Smith, a life resident of the Veedersburg community and a retired farmer died on Christmas Eve at the Margerett Home in Danville Ill where he was a patient for about a week. Before entering the home he had been a patient at the Lake View hospital for three months and had been in failing health for some time.  He was one of Veedersburg’s older and most respected citizens, born Nov 11, 1866 the son of David K. and Alcinda Walker Smith.  On March 18, 1891 he was married to Eva Grady who survives.  Also surviving is one son, Gale Smith iof Fowler, Indiana together with three granddaughters, three great grandchildren and a brother, Silas M. Smith of Veedersburg.  Mr. Smith was a farmer most of his life except for a year when  he was in business.  He was an active member of the Veedersburg Christian Church and served on the Church board for many years. In 1948, when his health began to fail he was elected an honorary member of the board for life.  Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Parham Funeral Home in Veedersburg with Richard Owen officiating. Burial was in Rockfield Cemetery. – kbz
