COVINGTON, Ind. (CNS)-- William Sherman Smail, 82, a life resident of Covington, died at 5:50 a.m. today (Oct. 29, 1973) at the Ben Hur Nursing Home. He had been a patient there 16 months. Mr. Smail had been a city mail carrier and had served as bailiff of the Fountain Circuit Court for several years before his retirement. He was an avid fisherman, having fished the Wabash River for 60 years. He was a member of the First Church of Christ. Born Nov. 11, 1890, in Covington, he was the son of William Henry and Mary Gray Smail. He was married Jan. 24, 1914, to Lonnie L. Holycross, who died July 24, 1949. He was married July 25, 1954, to Melissa Martin Henson, who survives and is a patient at the Ben Hur Nursing Home. Other survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Byron (Fauniel) Furr of Creve Cour, Mrs. Don (Connie) Coffman of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Paul (Anita) Kronst of Bourbonnais; three step sons, Robert, Richard and Ed Henson, all of Detroit, Mich.; two step daughters, Mrs. Helen Koerber of Detroit and Mrs. Mary Bell of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Mrs. Ona McKee of New Roswell, N.M.; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter and two brothers. Services will be at 2 p.m. EST Wednesday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Tuesday. --typed by Walt W
