SLOAN, Gusta Cates - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

Cates - Mrs. Gusta Sloan, 81, a former resident of this community died Wednesday morning (April 19) at Embassy Nursing Home in Newton, Iowa where she had lived many years. She was born March 3, 1886, a daughter of Alfred & Sarah Holowell Cates. Surviving are two sons, Leonard of Pratt, KS and Floyd of Newton, Iowa; two brothers, Clayton Cates of West Terre Haute, Ind and Hardy Cates of Rt 1, Kingman; five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett, May 2, 1929, a son and a daughter. Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 this afternoon at the Toland Funeral Home, Newton. Graveside rites and burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Covington at 11:30 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Lowell Barnard officiating.
