Hillsboro, Jan. 16—Mrs. Elmina P. Sloan, 84, lifelong resident of this community, died at her home three miles northeast of Hillsboro Sunday morning at 7 o’clock. She had been ill for a week with flu and complications arising from it.   Born near here on May 14, 1869, she was the daughter of Willis and Sarah Livengood Smalley. She was married to Ellis Sloan on Oct. 11, 1877. They lived in Hillsboro for the first year after their marriage, after which they moved to the farm where Mrs. Sloan died.  She was a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church. She also was a charter member of Fern Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star at Hillsboro and also a charter member of the Past Matrons and Patrons Club, which was named in honor of her.   Her husband died on Dec. 26, 1921 and since that time she and her son, Fred, had resided on the family farm. A daughter died in infancy.   Survivors besides the son include one grandson, Kenneth Sloan, of near this place; three great grandchildren; and five nephews. She was the last member of her immediate family.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the home with Rev. O. W. McGaughey of Veedersburg in charge. Burial will be in the Masonic Cemetery at Waynetown. – “S”

After a weeks' illness of the flu, Mrs. Elmina Sloan, 84, lifetime resident of the Hillsboro vicinity, died at the home of her son, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Sloan, three miles northeast of Hillsboro at 7 o'clock Sunday morning, Jan 16.  

She was the daughter of Willis and Sarah Livengood Smalley and was born on a farm east of Hillsboro on May 14, 1859. She was married to Ellis Sloan Oct 11, 1877 and they went to housekeeping in Hillsboro where they resided for one year and then moved to the farm where she spent the reminder of her life.  She was the last of her immediate family.

Mrs. Sloan was a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church and was a charter member of Fern Chapter Order of Eastern Star and also charter member of the local Past Matrona and Patrons Club. The club was named the Elmina Sloan Pact Matrons and Patrons Club in her honor.

Her husband preceded her in death Dec 26, 1921 and also a two year old daughter, Katie. The survivors are one son, Fred Sloan who resides at the old homestead, one grandson, Kenneth Sloan, residing in the same vicinity, three great grandchildren and five nephews   --- transcribed by kbz
