Hillsboro - Mrs. Ellie Brant Sloan, 77, of Hillsboro died Sunday at a hospital in Logansport. A graduate of Crawfordsville HS, she was a 50-year member of Fern Chapter OES No 194 in Hillsboro and had served as worthy matron. Mrs. Sloan was a member of Hillsboro Christian Church. She also taught school at one time. Born Feb 27, 1888 in Fountain County west of Waynetown, she was the daughter of Christopher and Nellie Bowerman Brant. She married Fred R. Sloan in Danville, Ill Aug 25, 1909. He preceded her in death in December 1953. Surviving are one son, Kenneth B. of HIllsboro; a sister, Miss Elizabeth Brant of Lafayette; 3 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. There are also several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the home in Hillsboro with Rev. Charles Kraft of Mellott officiating. Burial in Waynetown Cemetery.

HILLSBORO – Mrs. Effie Brant Sloan, age 77, of Hillsboro, died Sunday night, July 11, in a Logansport hospital. She was born Feb. 27, 1888, in Fountain County, the daughter of Christopher and Nellie Bowerman Brant. She was married Aug. 25, 1909, in Danville, Ill., to Fred R. Sloan, who preceded her in death in December of 1953. Mrs. Sloan was a member and past matron of Fern Chapter 194, Order of Eastern Star, and a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church. She was a gradute of Crawfordsville High School and a former school teacher. Surviving are: one son, Kenneth B. Sloan of Hillsboro; one sister, Miss Elizabeth Brant of and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, July 14, at the Crumley-Williams Funeral Home here. The Rev. Charles Kraft officiated and burial was in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. – jlr
