Funeral services for Robert Simmons, 67, of Veedersburg, were held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the New Antioch Christian Church in Mellott. Mr. Simmons, who resided at Mellott most of his life, moving to the Veedersburg community 13 years ago, passed away at a hospital at Punta Gorda, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. Simmons made their winter home at Punta Gorda, Fla. Born Oct. 25, 1893, near Mellott, he was a son of Manson and Kate Short Simmons. He was twice married. His first marriage was to Edith Davidson of Mellott. She died in 1939. His second marriage was to Ila Woodrow of Kingman. They were married in March of 1943. A former businessman at Mellott, Mr. Simmons was a member of the Mellott New Antioch Christian Church. Surviving are: his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Carl Overbeck of Veedersburg; a son, Manson of near here; three step-daughters, Mrs. Alfred Dobbs of Veedersburg, Mrs. Tom North of Carbondale, Illinois, and Mrs. Thelma Osborn of Kingman; three brothers, Glenn of Mellott, Dave of Lafayette, and Paul of Veedersburg; a sister, Mrs. Marvin Williams of Mellott. Services were in charge of Bodine and Shelby, with the Rev. Gordon Martin officiating. Burial was in Murray Cemetery, southeast of Mellott.   --typed by Walt W
