Manson E. Simmons, 47, a farmer residing near Mellott, died Wednesday Sept 8, 1971 at his home after suffering a heart attack. Born June 1, 1924 in Fountain County, he was the son of Robert C. and Clara Edith Davidson Simmons. He married Bonnie Fay at Waynetown May 12, 1945 who survives. A graduate of Richland Township High in 1942, he served in the Navy in WWII aboard the battleship New Jersey. He was a member of the Antioch Church at Mellott and attended Waynetown Baptist where he was a member of the Golden Rule Class. He also was a member of the Waynetown American Legion Post 448. Survivors include two sons, Robert E, a student at ISU and Donald at home; two daughters, Mrs. David (Mary Edith) Lawson of Mellott and Cindy, an ISU student; a sister, Mrs. Karl Overpeck of Monticello, a granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Servies-Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown with Rev. Rob James officiating. Burial in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.

Mellott -- Manson E. SIMMONS of Rt. 3, Veedersburg, died at 6:40 a.m. Wednesday at his home 1 1/2 miles east of Mellott. He suffered a heart attack. Mr. Simmons had suffered a previous heart attack two years ago but had appeared to be making satisfactory recovery until he was stricken Wednesday morning. Mr. Simmons was a farmer and had farmed in the Mellott area most of his life. He was a native of Fountain County, born June 1, 1924, the son of Robert C. and Clara Edith Davidson Simmons. He graduated from Richland HS in 1942. He was married May 12, 1945 to the former Bonnie Faye of Waynetown. She survives. Mr. Simmons was a member of the Mellott New Antioch Christian Church but had attended the Waynetown Baptist Church since his marriage. He was a member of the church's Golden Rule Class. He was a member of the Waynetown American Legion Post 445. He served in the US Navy during WWII aboard the battleship New Jersey in the Pacific. Survivors in addition to the widow include two sons, Robert E. Simmons, a student at Indiana State; and Donald Simmons at home; two daughters, Mrs. David (Mary Edith) Lawson of Mellott and Cindy Simmons, a student at Indiana State; a granddaughter, a sistre, Mrs. Karl Overbeck of Monticello; an uncle; four aunts and two nephews. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Servies-Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown. Rev. Rob James, pastor of the Waynetown Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday.
