SIMMONS, Ira Manson

Manson Simmons, former restaurant owner at Mellott and previously a farmer in the section near Yeddo, died at his farm home two miles east of Mellott, Sunday afternoon. He was one of the progressive citizens of this county, having been born in a log cabin near Yeddo on September 20 1866, the son of John and Levina Simmons.His early life was spent in that vicinity, later moving to Mellott, where he operated a restaurant for about 23 years. He was twice married, first to Kate Short, who died in 1918, and later to Barbara Williams, who surivies. Mr. Simmons was one of the several persons who attended the first Old Settlers meeting near Yeddo 60 years ago and had the distinction of having never missed a single session during his life time. He was a member of the Antioch church and the orders of Red Men and Pocahontas lodges. Children survivjng are four sons, Robert and David of Mellott, Glen of Lafayette, Paul of Veedersburg, two daughters, Mrs. Frank Storer, Terre Haute, and Mrs. Marvin Williams, Mellott. Funeral services were held Wednesday with burial at the Mellott cemetery.
