Elva C. Simmons, subject of this sketch, was born in Sugar Creek Township, Parke County, Indiana April 23, 1869; died Jan 26, 1908 aged 38 years 9 months and 3 days. She was united in marriage to John M. Simmons Aug 25, 1889. To this union were born 3 children: Ray, Claude and Glee. She was converted during a revival service at Freedom church, under the preaching of Rev. ED aSimmons at the tender age of 16. The deceased has been an invalid for more than 12 years, during which she had bore her suffering patiently and frequently stated that she had hope and assurance of eternal life beyond this troublesome world. While the angel of death has invaded our community and claimed our friend and neighbor as its victim, we are consoled by knowing that all her earthly pains and sorrows are over and we trust that she is gone where the hidden wound is healed. The deceased leaves a husband, two sons, one daughter, aged father, mother, one sister and 3 brothers, besides quite a number of other close relatives friends and neighbors to mourn her loss. The funeral was held at the residence on Monday at 12 o'clock services being conducted by Rev. ED Simmons: "She has done waht she could," after which the remains were laid to rest in the Zackmire cemetery.
