MELLOTT — David R. Simmons, 71, formerly of Mellott, died at 11 p.m. Wednesday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Lafayette after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage Tuesday. He was born Aug. 22, 1897 on a farm near here, a son of Ira Manson and Kate Short Simmons. He attended Mellott school. Mr. Simmons was married to Golden Knott at Lafayette on Nov. 16, 1950. Surviving besides the widow are two stepdaughters, Mrs. Annabelle Haynes of Lafayette and Mrs. Mary Hill of Indianapolis; seven step-grandchildren; a step great-grandchild; a sister, Mrs. Orpha Williams of Mellott; a brother, Paul Simmons of Veedersburg, and nieces and nephews. Mr. Simmons retired in 1959 from Brown Rubber Co. in Lafayette where he has been employed for several years. A sister and two brothers preceded him in death. Funeral services are set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Sollar-Baker Funeral Home at Lafayette with Rev. Joseph Wick officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Hillsboro. Friends may pay respects at the funeral home from 5 until 9 o'clock tonight. --typed by Walt W
