Ill less than a week, Mrs. Clara Edith Davidson Simmons, 47, died at 5 o'clock Saturday morning, November 25, 1939, at St. Elizabeth hospital in Lafayette. She became ill last Wednesday and was taken to the hospital Friday morning. Daughter of Rufus E. and Anna Stafford Davidson, she was born near Mellott on May 18, 1891, and was married on September 14, 1916, to Robert C. Simmons. She was a member of the Antioch Christian church and Pocahontas lodge. An infant daughter preceded her in death. Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Ruth, 19, in training at St. Elizabeth hospital at Lafayette; a, son, Manson, 15, at home; her mother, Mrs. Anne Davidson, of East St. Louis; two sisters, Mrs. Ralph Royal, of Mellott, and Mrs. Cloyd Drennan, of East Chicago; a brother, Dale, of East Chicago. Mellott, Nov. 25.—Mrs. Clara Edith Davidson Simmons, wife of Robert C. Simmons, died at 5 o'clock Saturday morning at St. Elizabeth's hospital in Lafayette, where she was taken Friday. She had been taken seriously ill on Wednesday, suffering from gall bladder and heart trouble. Mrs. Simmons was born on May 18, 1891, a mile and a half northwest of Mellott, the daughter of Rufus E. and Anne Stafford Davidson, and was married at Covington to Robert C. Simmons on September 14, 1916. She was a member of the New Antioch Christian church and of the Pocahontas lodge of Mellott. She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Ruth, age 19, a nurse in training at St. Elizabeth's hospital, one son, Manson, 15; her mother, Mrs. Anna Davidson of East St. Louis, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Ralph Royal of Mellott and Mrs. Cloyd Drennan of East St. Louis, and one brother, Dale Davidson, also of East St. Louis. An infant daughter, Ethel Irene, preceded her in death in February, 1922. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the New Antioch Christian church here.
