Cincinnati - Dr. Lacey Shuler, chief of the Orthopedic Service at Indianapolis General Hospital died Saturday night while enroute here in an ambulance for admission to a local hospital.  Physicians at Cincinnati General Hospital where Dr. Shuler was pronounced deat on arrival said the driver of the ambulance had reported he stopped at a drug store in a Cincinnati suburb and when he checked his patient, found him dead.

Cincinnati Jan 18 - Accidental barbiturate poisoning yesterday was given as the cause of death of Dr. Lacey Shuler, 55, Indianapolis orthopedic surgeon, by Coroner Herbert P. Lydle. Dr. Shuler died in an ambulance Saturday while en route here from his home.

Funeral rites for Dr. Lacey L. Shuler 56, 5868 Washington Blvd, Indianapolis bone specialist who died Saturday night in an ambulance en route to a hospital will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Flanner & Buchanan Mortuary.  Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.  The Rev. EL Day, executive secretary of the Christian Church Union and the Rev. Logan Hall, pastor of the Meridian Street Methodist Church will officiate. Pallbearers will be Dr. Harry E. Kitterman, Dr. Maurice V. Kahler, Dr. Okla W. Sicks, Dr. Ralph L. Lochry, Dr. Karl R. Ruddell, Harvey E. Belton and Dr. J. Kent Leasure, Idnaianpolis and Dr. Lawrence Bailey, Zionsville., One of the most widely known orthopedic surgeons in the US Dr. Shuler was a graduate of Indiana Univeristy where he received AB, BS, MA and MD degrees cum laude. Until 1933, he was professor and chairman of the orthopedic department of the Indiana University School of Medicine. He served on the staffs of the Methodist, St. Vincent's and General Hospitals and was the chairman of the Orthopedic Department at General Hospital.

A veteran of WWI and II, Dr. Shuler spent 18 months in England as a colonel and became chief o the orthopedic section of the 104th General Hospital unit there. He had offices in the Hume-Mansur Building. Dr. Shuler was a member of the Marion County Medical Association, the American Medical Association, American College of SUrgeons, Indiana Bone and Joint Club, American Academy of Orthopedics and Clinical Orthopedic Society and was a diplomat of the Orthopedic Board.  He was also a member of Phi Gamma Delta, Phi Rho Sigma, Alpha Rho Sigma, Alpha Omega Alpha and Sigma Xi Fraternities, Scottish Rite, Shrine, Indianapolis Athletic Club and Highland GOlf and Country Club, and Paul Coble Post, American Legion. Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Marie C. Shuler, and a daughter, Susan Lee Shuler, Indianaplis and his father, John W. Shuler, Waynetown. - kz
