NEW RICHMOND — James “Jimmy” E. Shoaf, 69, 105 N. Wabash St., New Richmond, died at 12:20 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000 in the emergency room of St. Clare Medical Center, Crawfordsville, shortly after arrival. He was born May 24, 1931 in Potomac, Ill., the son of James M. and Helen G. Adams Shoaf. He first married Patricia Nolan in 1951. She preceded in death. He then married Francis Evelyn (Carithers) Hutts, July 18, 1959 in Wingate. She survives. He was raised in West Lebanon and graduated from West Lebanon High School in 1949. He formerly lived in Attica, Rainsville, Wingate, Lafayette and for the past 30 years had lived in New Richmond. He worked at the Heartland Co-Op in West Point for many years, retiring in 1993. He formerly worked at the Romney Co-Op, Alcoa, Attica Ready-Mix, Harrison Steel, Raybestos and Peerless Wire. He was a member of the Hopewell Baptist Church in Newtown. In his early years he enjoyed bowling and bowled on several different leagues. He liked to refinish furniture. He was the “handyman” for many residents in New Richmond. Survivors, besides the wife, include: a daughter, Nancie L. Pate, Wallace; three step daughters, Sharon L. (Jerry) Stites and Vickie L. Beams, both of New Richmond; Willa D. Quillen, Newtown; a step son, William M. Hutts, II, Lafayette; three brothers, Curtis (Darlene) Shoaf, Rockhill, S.C., Jerry (Jeannine) Shoaf, Williamsport and Allan Ray (Delores) Shoaf, State Line; a sister, Carolyn Farrar, West Lebanon; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Rosemary Kirby and Emma Lou Knowles; a brother, William Thomas Shoaf; a grandson, Troy Wayne Platt; and a great-granddaughter, Chloe LaRose Quillen. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Maus Funeral Home, Attica, with the Rev. Tony King officiating. Burial was in. Newtown Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. – jlr
