Dewitt C. Shoaf, 74, one of the widely known citizens of the Wallace community, died at his home there Friday morning following an illness which had extended over several months. His death was due to a complication of diseases. He was b. near Wallace and had spent practidally all his life time in that section. His parents were Jacob & Elizabeth Shoaf. For many years Mr. Shoaf managed the Wallace Telephone Co. and was always intersted in the affairs of the community. He was twice married, first to: Arvilla J. Wilkinson on January 8, 1886, who died June 18, 1908. On March 8, 1911 he was married to Mary R. Swank, who survives. Besides the widow, one daughter, Mrs. Ura Swank of Urbana Ill two nephews and four nieces. He was involved in the Masonic & Eastern Star Orders at Wallace. - kbz

Wallace, July 5 – Dewitt C. Shoaf, 74, prominent local resident, died at his home here Friday morning at 2 o’clock. Death was due to a complication of diseases.  Mr. Shoaf had been in declining health for a number of years and had been seriously ill for the past six months. Mr. Shoaf was former manager of the Wallace Telephone Company. The deceased was born Jan 8, 1861 near here. He was the son of Jacob and Elizabeth Livengood Shoaf. He was first married On Jan 8, 1886 to Arvilla J. Wilkinson, whose death occurred June 18, 1908.  He was married a second time to Mary R. Swank March 8, 1911. The survivors include the wife, a daughter, Mrs. Ura Swartz of Urbana, Ill; two nephews and four nieces.  Mr. Shoaf was a member of the Masonic Lodge of masons and of the Wallace Chapter of Order of Eastern Star.  The funeral services will be held at the Wallace Christian Church Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. The body will lie in state for one hour preceding the services. Rev. John Servies of Crawfordsville will be in charge of the rites. The Masonic burial service will be given at the church. Burial will take place in the Lutheran Cemetery a mile east of Wallace. - kbz

Wallace, July 5.  Dewitt C. Shoaf, 74, farmer and former manager of the Wallace Telephone Company died at 2 o’clock this morning at the family home, after having been in failing health for some time. He was born near here, Jan 8, 1861, a son of Jacob and Elizabeth (Livengood) Shoaf and was married to Arvilla J. Wilkinson. His wife died in 1908 and March 8 199 he was married to Mary R. Swank. His entire life was spent in this vicinity and he was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Surviving are the widow, with a daughter, Mrs. Ura Swartz, Urbana, Ill. The body will lie in state at the Wallace Christian Church Sunday afternoon from 1:30 o’clock and the funeral will be held at 2:30 with Rev. John Servies, Crawfordsville officiating; the Masonic ritualistic service will also be held with interment in the Lutheran cemetery, one mile east of here. - kbz
