Mrs. Lena E. Shindle, 27, died at 6 a.m. Monday at the home of her aunt,
Mrs. Robert Layton, Veedersburg. She was ill more than 3 years and at the
aunt's home 3 months. Brief prayer services were held at the Fishero Funeral
Home with the Rev. Robert Todd officiating. Tuesday the body was taken to
Hammond, Ind and funeral services held there on Wednesday. . Burial was
in Elmwood Cemetery there. Mrs. Shindle was born Nov 22, 1922 at Gary,
Ind daughter of Ed and Maude Hedgecoth Smiley. She was married May 10, 1942 to
Henry T. Shindle who survives. She was a member of the Methodist Church and
Moose Lodge Auxiliary. Other survivors are her parents, a son, Ronald; two
sisters, Mrs. Lillian Peterson and Mrs. Bobette Yerga, Hammond, Ind; and 3
brothers, Edward, Chester and William Smiley, all of Hammond. --- kbz
