Willis A. Shideler, 76 of Veedersburg died in Lake View Hospital at Danville Friday night about 4 hours after he was struck by an auto while crossing Rt 41 in Sterling, a short distance east of Veedersburg.
Because of poor hearing and eye trouble, Mr. Shideler apparently did not see or hear the approaching car, witnesses said. The auto was driven by a Chicagoan en route to Evansville on Rt 41.
The accident occurred about 7 p.m. Mr. Shideler was taken to the Danville Hospital where he died about 11 o'clock. His death was attributed to a fractured skull and other injuries.
Mr. Shideler was a retired brick layer and cement contractor and had been a resident of Veedersburg since 1891. He was a member of Sterling Christian Church and Knights of Pythias.
Born November 24, 1868 in Delaware County, Indiana he was the Hiram and Nancy Toll Shideler. He was married to Anna Jerritt, who died in 1933.
Surviving are two sons, Fred of Veedersburg and Wayne home on leave from the Navy; one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Oilar of Veedersburg; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held
