Source: The obituary is from a collection of newspaper (paper names not recorded) obituaries saved, by Fauniel Hershberger, during the 1950's, 60's, 70's and 80's. She was a life long resident of Fountain County Indiana.  The collection is now housed at Crawfordsville District Public Library.

Charles L. Shepherd, age 86, of Danville, a former resident of Covington, died at 2:10 p. m. Monday, March 19, at his home there. He had been ill several years. Mr. Shepherd was known throughout the midwest as an accomplished harness race driver. He also owned several champion trotters. In 1931, his trotter, Greyson, won 20 of 21 races on the county fair circuit. Another of his horses, Great Buy, a pacer, once ran the mile race in 2:02.25, recognized as an exceptionally fast time. Mr. Shepherd was born May 2, 1875 in Stone Bluff, to Marion and Hannah Carnegie Shepherd. He had lived in Danville 45 years, moving to Danville from Covington. He married Catherine McMahon in Covington. She died Aug. 2, 1958. Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Frank Spooner of Indianapolis. Funeral services were held this morning, Wednesday, at the Jones-Sullivan Funeral home in Danville. The Rev. C. B. Motsett officiated. Burial was in the St. Joseph Cemetery at Covington.   --typed by Walt W
