COVINGTON, Ind. (CNS)— Mrs. Verna Glascock Shelton, 91, a life resident of Covington and a retired school teacher, died at 11:35 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 26, 1971) at Danville Care Nursing Home. She had been a patient four years. Born Nov. 26, 1879, in Cain Township of Fountain County, she was the daughter of Thomas and Viola Adkins Glascock. She was married May 2, 1952, to Joseph Clifford Shelton, who died Feb. 18, 1956. Mrs. Shelton was a graduate of Covington High and the University of Michigan. She taught at Indiana State University and Perrysville, Danville, Veedersburg and Covington high schools. She also served as principal of Covington High for many years. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Richard Henry Lee Chapter DAR, Troy Chapter 145 Order of Eastern Star, Retired Teachers Association of Indiana, Daughters of American Colonists in Terre Haute, Past Chiefs Club of Pythian Sisters and Fountain County Farm Bureau. She was the last charter member of Alpha Gamma Chapter of Tri Kappa Sorority. Mrs. Shelton had been active in all civic and historical projects. She loved to work with music and was a former director of the Fountain County Home Demonstration Club Chorus. Survivors include three stepchildren, Floyd M. Shelton of Wichita Falls, Tex., Mrs. Florence Byerly of Schererville and Mrs. LaVerne Cox of Covington; and several cousins. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. The Rev. Harold Fogle will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The body is at the funeral home. Friends will be received after 2 p.m. Tuesday. --typed by Walt W
