VEEDERSBURG — Walter D. Shelley, 70, of Rt. 3, Veedersburg died, at his home near here at 1 a.m. Friday. He had been ill for about a year. Born in Montgomery County near Crawfordsville Oct. 14, 1897, Mr. Shelley was the son of Henry and Minnie Reeder Shelley. He was married twice. His first wife, Ethel Smith, died in October of 1949. On July 5, 1952, he married Bessie Bowman. She survives. Mr. Shelley was employed at the Harrison Steel Co. in Attica for 20 years prior to his retirement. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization at Attica. Mr. Shelley was a member of the First Assembly of God Church at Covington. Surviving in addition to the widow are two sons, James Shelley of Williamsport and Sgt. Howard Shelley, stationed in Korea; a stepson, Sgt. Benny Bowman, stationed in South Carolina; two daughters, Mrs. Ginny Minnick of Veedersburg, and Mrs. Ruth Cates of Covington; two step-daughters, Mrs. Grace Cates and Mrs. Helen Krout, both of Veedersburg; 12 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Gayle Mills of Atlantic Beach, Fla., Mrs. Bill Montgomery of Bowling Green, Ind., Mrs. Elmer Goodson of Vincennes and Mrs. Clint Pleckner of Indianapolis. Source: The obituary is from a collection of newspaper (paper names not recorded) obituaries saved, by Fauniel Hershberger, during the 1950's, 60's, 70's and 80's. She was a life long resident of Fountain County Indiana.  The collection is now housed at Crawfordsville District Public Library.

VEEDERSBURG — Funeral services for Walter Shelley, who died early Friday at his home on Rt. 3, are announced for 2 p.m. Monday at the Assembly of God Church in Covington. The body will be taken there at noon Monday. Rev. Edgar Allen will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the Attica VFW post.
