MARION EVERETT SHELL,   youngest son of William E. and Margaret Shell, was born at Longview, Ill., December 12, 1905, died June 21, 1914, at Laclede, Mo.,  aged 8 years, 6 months and 12 days.

On the date of his death Marion and two other playmates went to a railroad reservoir to wade.  From the description received it seems that the reservoir is quite shallow at one side and gradually gets deeper as the opposite side is approached.   Near the shallow side is a ditch, and it is presumed that it was in this ditch where Marion went down after strangling.  The boys were wading in the shallow water, and it is the contention of the boy’s father that he stepped into the ditch and in his excitement became strangled and drowned.  The water in the ditch was only about four feet deep, but the body was found some distance from where it was last seen by his playmates.

Marion united with the U. B. church at Longview, Ill., in March 1911, and has ever been faithful to his pledge, living to the best of his ability the life as taught by the great way shower—Jesus the Christ.   He was a kind and obedient child and was loved by all who new him, and especially his playmates.

Funeral services were held at the home of his uncle, Geo. Shell, at Harveysburg on Friday at 10 o’clock,  Rev. J. M. McHargue officiating.  Interment was made in the Harveysburg cemetery. – S
