Covington - Frank Y. Shelby, 93, retired Covington Funeral Director, died at 3:45 p.m. Thursday Feb 10 in the Covington Manor Health Center.  Mr. Shelby was born Dec 21, 1900 in Randolph, Utah.  His marriage was to Helen VanDorn Aug 3, 1924 in Covington and she died Dec 9, 1991.

He graduated from Box Elder HS in Brigham City, Utah and Askins College of Embalming.  Mr. Shelby had been a resident of Covington since 1924.  He formerly worked for funeral director Mont Boord and later purchased an interest in the funeral home.  

He served several years as a funeral director and received his 50-year pin from the Indiana Funeral Directors Association.  At one time he operated the Shelby FUrniture Store in Covington and was a Shorthorn and Angus cattle breeder, and raised Tennessee Walking horses.  

Mr. Shelby was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a 50-year member and past master of Fountain Masonic Lodge, 50-year-member and past worthy patron of Troy Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Murat Shrine Horse Patrol, the Ferguson Club and a former member of the Fountain County Historical Society.

A lifelong Democrat he served two terms as Fountain County Coroner.  He visited the former Soviet Union as part of the People to People program a number of years ago.  Surviving are three sons: Richard V. Shelby of Vero Beach, Fla; Robert B. Shelby of Covington and Dr. Donald R. Shelby of San Angelo, Texas; three daughters: Mrs. Thomas (Virginia) Bennett of Veedersburg; Mrs. Richard (Emma Lou) Davis of Covington and Mary Elizabeth Hoagland of West Lafayette; four sisters: Helen Hunsaker of Honeyville, Utah; Jewell Cowan of Ogden, Utah; Ruth Wintle of North Ogden, Utah and Mrs Ernest (Jean) Stafflund of South Jordan, Utah and a brother, David Shelby of Sandy, Utah. - kbz

"Funeral Notice" - Shelby, Frank Y. Friends may call 3-8 p.m. Saturday, Shelby Funeral Home, Covington.  Masonic service there 7:30 p.m.  Funeral service there 1 p.m. Sunday, the Rev. Allen Phillips officiating.  Interment Bend Cemetery.  Surviving are 21 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren a number of nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by his parents, 5 sisters, 6 brothers.
