Georgetown, Ill.—Lena M. Sheets, 98, Georgetown, died at 5:26 a.m. Monday, Jan. 23, 1989 at her son’s home in Perrysville.
She was born June 19, 1890, the daughter of James and Cora Holdaway Mitchell. She was the only surviving member of a family of three brothers and two sisters. She was married Dec. 30, 1909 in Danville, Ill., to Fred M. Sheets, who preceded her in death in 1975.
She had lived in the Perrysville and Georgetown areas all of her life. She was a member of the Union Corner Church and Highland Township Home Economics Club and had served as its president. She was a member of the Home Economics Chorus in Vermillion County, Ind. and Lowe’s Chapel Aid. She lived on a farm all of her life. She enjoyed working in her flowers and her garden and she loved to travel. Her hobby was quilting.
Last June, she celebrated her 98th birthday with an open house with more than 150 guests in attendance.
Surviving are a son, Frank, with whom she made her home; two daughters, Merle Evans, Texas City, Texas, and June Yeargin, Georgetown; seven grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Thursday at Houghton-Leasure Funeral Home, Georgetown, with Grover Williams officiating. Burial was in McKendree Cemetery. – s
